Mercedes-benz R350 Tires
The Mercedes-Benz R-class is a luxury wagon/MPV that was discontinued in 2017; the R350 version featured a 3.5L V6 and was available in standard or long-wheelbase versions. The R-class had a lot of commonalities with the M-class and GL-class models, with a choice of V6 or V8 engines and a 7-speed automatic transmission. Sales for the R350 were never strong and only declined over the years, partly because it fell between the cracks somewhat – not really a wagon, not a minivan and not a ruggedized SUV or crossover. While the R350 was comfortable, capable, and competent, it never was a hit with Mercedes drivers and reached the end of the road after a fairly short production run.
At SimpleTire, we’ve gone through and compiled some of the best all-season, ultra-high-performance (UHP), and winter tire choices for your Mercedes-Benz R350, then ranked them in Best/Great/Good order. We then broke them down with SimpleScore rankings for traction, longevity, and handling, using our system that looks at data points for each of those and distills them into a numerical score. Ready? Let’s go in for a closer look:
1. Bridgestone Alenza A/S Ultra: Best All-Season tire
We’re going to kick off this list with the Bridgestone Alenza A/S Ultra, an all-season tire that scores highly for year-round traction on dry, wet, or snowy roads. It’s a very capable tire that offers the versatility you need along with the sort of low highway noise and supple ride quality you’d expect with a Grand Touring tire. The Alenza A/S Ultra is one of the newer offerings from Bridgestone’s Alenza tire family and is designed with long, even tread wear and precise handling in mind. For great wear properties, low noise generation, and dependable grip in wet or wintry weather, Bridgestone starts with an advanced silica-based tread compound. The Alenza A/S Ultra’s asymmetric all-season tread pattern resists hydroplaning with wide circumferential grooves to channel water away from the tire’s contact patch in wet weather. When the snow starts piling up on the roads, there’s a dense pattern of sipes and Bridgestone’s Snow Vices, grooves that are designed so they pick up and retain snow to develop snow-to-snow friction and safe, reliable traction in such conditions. Bridgestone’s Quiet Track technology package reduces pattern noise and cancels certain frequencies for a whisper-quiet ride. Internally, the Alenza A/S Ultra is designed with a polyester casing topped by two steel belts and a spiral-wound nylon cap layer, for the highway-speed stability and long wear you’re looking for. When you put that all together, Bridgestone is confident enough to stand by the Alenza A/S Ultra with an 80,000 mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. After running it all through SimpleTire’s SimpleScore system, the Alenza A/S Ultra pulls down an overall average of 9.6, with marks of 9.55 for handling, 9.7 for longevity, and 9.7 for traction. Long, even ear, dependable grip year-round, long, even wear and handling that’s precise and predictable – that's what you can expect with the Bridgestone Alenza A/S Ultra.
2. Pirelli Scorpion Winter: Best Winter tire
When the snow starts piling up on the roads, we’re going with the Pirelli Scorpion Winter. Pirelli designed this purpose-built winter tire with a low-temperature tread compound that stays flexible for traction in subfreezing weather. That rubber compound is molded into an aggressive directional tread pattern that features circumferential grooves, chamfered groove edges, V-shaped grooves, and dense 3D sipes that can easily claw their way through snow and slush, for a solid SimpleScore of 9.8 for traction. That system of tread elements is designed to work together for improved cornering, control, steering response, and braking performance for a handling score of 9.8. The Scorpion Winter does fall somewhat when it comes to durability – dedicated winter tires are not designed for warmer weather and their softer, more pliable low-temperature tread compound will wear prematurely on warmer days when temperatures are above 45 degrees F. That being said, the Scorpion Winter 2 still sports a great longevity score of 8.0.
While these are the best Mercedes-Benz R350 tires on the market, there are plenty of other options to consider:
3. Falken Azenis FK460 A/S: Great UHP All-Season tire
For some time now, just about everything from the Falken brand has made a good impression on us, and the Azenis FK460 A/S is no exception. The Falken Azenis FK460 A/S is designed for dependable, confident grip in wet or dry weather, with its advanced 4D Nano tread compound, Canyon Groove tech for improved grip in wet or wintry conditions, Emerging Grooves that open up and expand for extended performance even as the tire’s tread depth wears and circumferential grooves with chamfered edges for a traction score of 8.6. Falken covers the Azenis FK460 A/S with a 50,000 mile warranty (thanks in part to that 4D Nano tread compound), for a SimpleScore of 9.1 for longevity. Steering response, cornering, road manners, and braking performance are all exemplary with this tire, for a SimpleScore of 8.8 for handling. We’d also like to mention here that the Azenis FK460 A/S is quiet and composed on the highway, with grooves that cancel certain frequencies to keep road noise to a minimum and are acoustically tuned to cut down on wind noise.
4. Kumho Crugen HP71: Great All-Season tire
Let’s close out and wrap up our list with a next-generation all-season tire, the Kumho Crugen HP71. The Crugen HP71 comes with a very respectable SimpleScore of 9.1 for longevity; Kumho designed it with an advanced tread compound and covered it with a 65,000 mile warranty. Steering feedback, response, road manners, and cornering are all in line with what you’d expect from a performance tire, with a rigid center rib and shoulder blocks that hold their own against the stresses of braking and cornering for a handling score of 8.6. With its circumferential grooves, micro-serrations, lateral voids, and full-depth sipes that help deliver dependable grip in wet, dry, or wintry conditions and on a variety of pavement surfaces, we give the Crugen HP71 a SimpleScore of 8.4 for traction. The Kumho Crugen HP71 is also engineered for a supple, quiet ride thanks to a tread pitch that’s randomized and computer-tuned to cancel certain frequencies, keeping highway noise to a minimum.
